The Rescue Diver course develops the knowledge and skills for individuals to effectively perform diver assists and rescues, manage diving accident situations and render first aid. The course is an important step in expanding a diver's knowledge and experience. Rescue Diver (or equivalent) certification is a prerequisite for all leadership training.
To qualify for Rescue Diver training an individual must be certified as an Advanced Open Water Diver or Advanced Plus or equivalent and must be at least 15 years old. The Junior Rescue Diver course is open to divers between the ages of 12 and 14 with a Junior Advanced Open Water or Advanced Plus (or equivalent) rating.
To be certified as a Rescue Diver, the student must also successfully complete a sanctioned course in CPR within the past year.
The Rescue Diver course consists of five academic modules and twelve open water exercises.
The academic topics include:
- self-rescue and diver stress
- diving first aid
- emergency management
- equipment considerations
The open water exercises include:
- swimming and non-swimming assists
- panicked diver response
- underwater problems
- missing diver procedures
- surfacing the unconscious diver
- in-water artificial respiration
- egress (exits)
- first aid procedures for pressure related accidents
- diving accident scenarios
Upon successfully completing of the course, the diver receives a certification card denoting the Rescue Diver rating.
The minimun time to get certified as Rescue Diver is 5 days.
day 1: Classroom from 9:00 a.m. untill 12:00 p.m. Shallow water training exercises from 3:00 p.m. untill 5:00. p.m.
day 2: Classroom from 9:00 a.m. untill 12:00 p.m. Shallow water training exercises from 3:00 p.m. untill 5:00 p.m
day 3: Open water training dives 1 and 2 (exercises) from 9:00 a.m. untill 1:00 p.m.
day 4: Open water training dives 3 and 4 (exercises) from 9:00 a.m. untill 1:00 p.m.
day 5: Open water training dives to repeat skills ( if required ), paperwork and final exam at 4:00 p.m.
NOTE: Tthe Medical First Aid course is not included in the Rescue Diver course but is required! You can either take it at your home country or take it with us as a separate course!
